Pink Blob on Marsh Marigold Leaf

I have noticed a pink blob of something attached to the under side of a marsh marigold leaf in my pond. The blob looks like pink caviar - a cluster of tiny eggs.

Do you know what this is? Is it a pest or shall I leave it there?

Thanks.

Maz

Pink blob

It's not a pest or benign insect I'm familiar with. I'd wait for them to hatch and then see what happens. There's not much damage they can do to marsh marigolds at this time of year. Send us a photo of the resultant hatched grubblings. You never know it may be a visitor from another country.

Pink Blob

Hi Peter, I have found out what it is by googling. It is a cluster of Apple Snail eggs. A few months ago I placed some of these in my pond and one must have climbed up and layed its eggs.

Thanks.

Well done Maz. Where do you live? I thought Apple Snails were a tropical/sub-tropical water snail.

Apple Snails

Peter,

I live in Essex. The apple snails were bought from my local Aqua Centre. They told me they eat decaying vegetation at the bottom of the pond so I bought some. Trouble is I don't now think they will survive our winter as I understand they like it warm. Shame really.

Thanks for this great site!
